Lori offers both individual and family counseling for ages 10 and older. She has worked with adolescents since 1996 in various capacities, as well as adults and families. She seeks to help clients gain tools to develop healthy self-care, effective communication skills, healthy relationships, and other important life skills.
Individual counseling takes place between an individual and counselor in a professional setting and is a professional relationship. Individual counseling focuses on the individual's life issues/concerns and working towards attainable counseling goals. At times, it may be appropriate to bring a family member or significant other into a counseling session. This should be discussed beforehand to establish goals for such a session.
Family counseling involves at least two or more family members, who work together with the counselor to resolve issues within the family. All family members are encouraged to take an active role in counseling, and the counselor works to facilitate and model healthy communication in the sessions. All family members are given a chance to express and explore concerns they have related to family roles, rules, and concerns.
